a Public Archaeologist

My archaeological work is driven by the needs of various clients and audiences. My fieldwork and research serves both public and private sectors to satisfy regulatory needs in compliance archaeology. I also work with historical societies and local interest groups to investigate aspects of the past through archaeological investigation.

As a Public Archaeologist, I am interested in making my research available to general audiences, as well as other academic researchers. I have presented widely to professional and public groups, and published in academic journals and edited volumes. Current publications include a volume that I co-edited entitled The Archaeology of Race in the Northeast (University Press of Florida 2015).

I am a trained anthropologist in the subfield of archaeology. I earned my B.A. at Hunter College in New York City, my M.A. (specializing in historical archaeology) at Syracuse University; and M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees at the Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York.

In 2018, I earned a Mark E. Mack Community Engagement Award from the Gender and Minority Affairs Committee of the Society for Historical Archaeology.

I am currently an inaugural recipient of the Robert D. L. Gardiner “Writing the History of Greater New York” Fellowship at the Gotham Center for New York City History for my forthcoming book Long Island Dirt.
